WAZUSIM is an educational computer simulation game of an activated sludge wastewater treatment system. The model focuses on biochemical processes like carbon oxidation, nitrification and denitrification. Students may change the input of the system, or the flow within the system (by turning the taps). They can even change the structure of the treatment system by changing the way in which the components are connected.

main characteristics

  • an advanced user-friendly interface, easy to learn, resulting in a steep learning curve
  • an extended on-line help-system (technical background and glossary)
  • structured dialogues, giving easy access to the relevant parameters of the model
  • flexible presentation of data in dynamic graphs and tables
  • interactive main screen, showing a dynamic diagram of the treatment systems
  • real-time graphical data presentation, enabling direct interactive manipulation and intervention
  • based on a well tested and validated model (by the IAWPRC)
